What is MÜRROR?
MÜRROR is a smile-activated interactive wall mirror that remains hidden until it recognizes a smile. Unlike a regular mirror, it responds to the person standing in front of it and reveals the reflection only when a smile is detected.
How does MÜRROR work?
MÜRROR uses smile-detection technology to recognize a smile and reveal its reflective surface. Once the system is ready, simply stand in front of it and smile.
Does MÜRROR distinguish between a real and a fake smile?
MÜRROR is not designed to judge whether a smile is “real” or “fake.” It is designed to invite people into a playful interaction.
Someone may begin with a deliberate smile simply to activate the mirror, but trying again, smiling a little bigger, and seeing the reflection suddenly appear often creates genuine surprise and amusement. People frequently invite others to try it too, turning a simple smile into a shared experience.
A smile may begin without a reason. The interaction can become the reason joy starts to spread.
What does the name MÜRROR mean?
The name MÜRROR brings together the ideas of a smile and a mirror. The “ü” visually resembles a smiling face and also reflects designer Berk Ilhan’s Turkish heritage.
Why is MÜRROR more than a regular mirror?
A regular mirror simply reflects. MÜRROR turns that passive act into an interaction. It asks for a smile first, creating a moment of anticipation, play, and surprise before the reflection appears.
Who designed MÜRROR?
MÜRROR was created by designer and artist Berk Ilhan through Berk Ilhan Design Studio.
Is MÜRROR an artwork or a functional product?
MÜRROR sits between art, design, and technology. It functions as an interactive wall mirror while also being conceived as an experiential design object and artwork exploring joy, self-perception, play, and human connection.
Setup & Use
Does MÜRROR need Wi-Fi or an app?
No. MÜRROR works completely offline and does not require Wi-Fi, an internet connection, an app, or an account. It is designed as a plug-and-play interactive mirror.
Does MÜRROR send facial or image data to the internet?
No. MÜRROR operates offline. Image and facial data used for smile detection are not transmitted, uploaded, or shared over the internet.
What happens when I plug MÜRROR in?
When MÜRROR receives power, the LED on the back turns on. After approximately 15–20 seconds, the mirror surface briefly becomes reflective and then returns to its hidden state. This indicates that the system has finished booting and smile detection is ready.
What power source does MÜRROR use?
MÜRROR is powered via Micro-USB. It can be used with the supplied wall adapter or another compatible 5V/2A USB power source, including a portable power bank.
Can MÜRROR stay plugged in continuously?
Yes. MÜRROR is designed to remain powered during regular use. When idle, its internal electronics continue to draw a small amount of standby power. If it will not be used for several days or weeks, or if you prefer to minimize standby energy consumption, unplugging it or switching off the power source is recommended.
How should MÜRROR be installed?
MÜRROR is designed to be wall-mounted using the recessed mounting cavity on the back of the frame, which hangs on a standard screw.
Because wall construction varies, use a screw, anchor, or fixing appropriate for the specific wall type and make sure it can safely support the product before hanging MÜRROR.
At what height should MÜRROR be installed?
Install MÜRROR so the user’s face is comfortably visible to the camera while standing naturally in front of it.
Because the camera is positioned near the lower part of the frame and angled slightly upward, the mirror should not be mounted too high above face level.
As a general starting point:
- Children: center of mirror around 100–120 cm / 39–47 in
- Average-height adults: around 145–155 cm / 57–61 in
- Taller adults: around 160–170 cm / 63–67 in
These are approximate guidelines rather than fixed rules.
For public or shared spaces, installing two or three MÜRRORs at different heights can make the experience more accessible to children, average-height adults, and taller users.
What lighting works best for MÜRROR?
MÜRROR works best when the user’s face is clearly illuminated.
Avoid strong backlighting, such as a bright window, direct sunlight, or another strong light source positioned behind the user. Front or ambient light on the face generally provides the most reliable smile detection.
What if MÜRROR does not recognize my smile immediately?
Make sure your face is well lit, avoid strong backlighting, and stand at a comfortable distance from the mirror. Smiling slightly bigger or holding your smile a little longer can also help.
Care & Everyday Use
Is MÜRROR suitable for children?
Yes. MÜRROR can be an especially playful, surprising, and interactive experience for children.
It invites them to experiment with different smiles and expressions and discover how the mirror responds. For younger users, appropriate installation height, secure mounting, and adult supervision should be considered.
How should MÜRROR be cleaned?
MÜRROR is designed to be experienced without touching the surface — a smile is all that is needed to activate it.
In shared or public settings, letting users know that they do not need to touch the mirror can help prevent fingerprints and reduce the need for frequent cleaning.
The smart optical layer over the reflective surface can develop fine scratches over time, so unnecessary contact and frequent wiping should be avoided.
When cleaning is needed, lightly dampen a soft, smooth microfiber cloth with glass cleaner and gently wipe away fingerprints or marks. Do not spray cleaner directly onto the product or apply excessive pressure.
How durable is MÜRROR?
MÜRROR is designed as a long-term indoor design object. Careful handling, secure installation, compatible power use, and gentle cleaning help preserve both its appearance and performance over time.
Public, Commercial & Project Use
Where can MÜRROR be used?
MÜRROR can be used in homes, studios, workplaces, clinics and waiting areas, schools and learning environments, hotels and hospitality spaces, wellness settings, retail and showrooms, exhibitions, cultural spaces, and other indoor environments designed for interaction, reflection, play, or human connection.
Can MÜRROR be used in high-traffic or public spaces?
Yes, provided it is securely mounted, appropriately positioned, and maintained according to the installation and care guidelines. In high-traffic environments, multiple units at different heights can improve accessibility and user flow.
Can MÜRROR be installed as a group?
Yes. Multiple MÜRRORs can be installed together at the same or different heights. This can create a more playful shared experience and make the installation accessible to users of different ages and heights.
Can architects and interior designers specify MÜRROR for projects?
Yes. Architects, interior designers, creative teams, hospitality operators, healthcare clients, retailers, and cultural institutions can inquire about standard or custom MÜRROR pieces for project-specific applications.
Can I order a custom MÜRROR?
Yes. Custom MÜRROR pieces may be commissioned for distinctive interiors and projects. Depending on feasibility, custom work may include different dimensions, frames, finishes, materials, and installation requirements.
Can I use MÜRROR in advertising, branded content, or a campaign?
Organic personal, editorial, and social sharing of a lawfully purchased MÜRROR is welcome.
If MÜRROR becomes part of a third-party advertising campaign, paid influencer brief, branded film, product launch, commercial activation, guerrilla-marketing initiative, product placement, or other promotional concept, that use is treated as a separate commercial collaboration and requires prior written approval from Murror LLC.
MÜRROR welcomes collaborations with brands, institutions, creators, artists, and cultural partners whose values and projects align with the spirit of the work. Campaign, film, activation, licensing, and branded-collaboration uses are scoped separately and may involve creative development, usage rights, approvals, fees, territory, duration, and other project-specific terms.

Orders, Returns & Warranty
What is the return policy?
Standard MÜRROR purchases are generally final sale.
We accept returns or provide appropriate remedies when a product arrives damaged, defective, incorrect, or where a return or withdrawal right is required by applicable law.
Customers in jurisdictions that provide mandatory cancellation or withdrawal rights, including eligible consumers in the EU/EEA, retain those statutory rights.
Custom, bespoke, commissioned, modified, or personalized MÜRROR pieces are final sale except where required by law or in cases of damage, defect, or material nonconformity.

Can I return MÜRROR if I change my mind?
Outside jurisdictions that provide a mandatory withdrawal right, standard MÜRROR purchases are generally final sale and are not returnable solely because of a change of mind.
If applicable consumer law gives you a statutory withdrawal or cancellation right, that right remains available to you.
What if my MÜRROR arrives damaged or defective?
Please contact hello@murror.com within 24 hours of delivery, where reasonably possible, with your order number and clear photos or videos showing the issue and the packaging. This notification period does not limit any rights you may have under applicable law.
What is MÜRROR’s warranty?
MÜRROR is covered by a two-year limited warranty against manufacturing defects under normal intended use.
If an issue occurs, we first provide troubleshooting support by email. If a verified manufacturing defect is found, MÜRROR may repair or replace the unit and cover approved return shipping costs.
Damage caused by misuse, improper installation, unsuitable power sources, unauthorized modification, or normal wear and tear is not covered.
How long does delivery take?
Standard MÜRROR orders typically arrive within 1–2 weeks, depending on destination, carrier, customs processing, and other delivery conditions. Custom or commissioned pieces may require additional production time.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. MÜRROR ships to selected international destinations. Delivery times and applicable customs duties, import taxes, VAT, brokerage fees, or local handling charges may vary by destination.
